Salesforce
Connect Salesforce and your assistant can work your CRM — searching and querying records with SOQL/SOSL, inspecting objects and fields, and creating or updating accounts, contacts, opportunities, and any other record.
What’s included
With Salesforce connected, your assistant can:
- Find records — text search, SOSL search, SOQL queries, and record lookups by ID
- Explore your org — list objects, describe them, list fields, and read related records
- Create records — accounts, contacts, opportunities, case comments, and any object via generic record creation
- Keep data current — update accounts, contacts, opportunities, and any record, including upserts
Connecting Salesforce
- Go to Integrations
- Find Salesforce and click Connect
- Authorize Town in Salesforce (sign in when prompted)
- Return to Town
Salesforce requires a one-time admin install. Nobody in your org — including Salesforce administrators — can connect until a Salesforce admin has installed the Pipedream app package in the org. If your connection attempt fails, see If connecting fails below.
Your assistant acts on your behalf and is limited by your Salesforce profile and permissions. You can revoke access anytime from Salesforce connected apps settings.
If connecting fails: ask your Salesforce admin to install the app
Town connects to Salesforce through an app named Pipedream, published as a Salesforce External Client App — that’s the name your admin will see in Salesforce. External client apps are closed by default: Salesforce refuses every authorization attempt (the sign-in page shows “This app has not been installed”) until an admin installs the app package in the org and chooses who may use it. This applies to administrators too, so a Salesforce admin can’t work around it by connecting first. Users who connected before the app was published this way keep working.
The fix is a one-time step (about two minutes) by a Salesforce admin:
- Signed in to Salesforce as an admin, open Pipedream’s install link: https://login.salesforce.com/packaging/installPackage.apexp?p0=04tfn000006qH2vAAE . (The same link appears as install the External Client App (ECA) on the Pipedream screen that opens when you click Connect in Town.) For a sandbox, replace
login.salesforce.comwithtest.salesforce.com. - On the Install Pipedream page, choose who may connect: Install for All Users lets everyone in your org connect; Install for Specific Profiles… limits it to the profiles you pick. (Install for Admins Only blocks everyone else.)
- Tick the acknowledgement that you’re installing a non-AppExchange application, then click Install and wait for Installation Complete.
- Permitted users can now retry Connect for Salesforce in Town. Salesforce shows its standard Allow Access? screen listing what Pipedream is asking for; click Allow.
To change who may use the app later, open Setup, search for External Client Apps Manager, and choose Edit Policies on the Pipedream app (OAuth policies → permitted users, profiles, and permission sets). If the package is installed and connections still fail, email support@corp.town.com — that points to a different cause and we’ll help track it down.
