Connecting to 1Password

Connect 1Password and your Townie can sign in to sites for you, so tasks that live behind a login page actually get finished. You approve logins in 1Password, and Town never sees your credentials.

What you need

  • A 1Password Individual or Families account on 1password.com (US region). Your Townie can use logins in your Personal vault (called Private in Families accounts). Shared vaults, team vaults, and 1Password Business aren’t supported yet.
  • The 1Password desktop app for Mac, Windows, or Linux, to approve sign-in requests.

How to connect

  1. Go to /integrations and find 1Password.
  2. Click Connect and follow the steps to link your 1Password account.
  3. That’s it. You only need to connect once.

How sign-ins work

  1. Ask your Townie for something that needs a login. For example: “Book Julia’s checkup through the pediatrician’s patient portal.”
  2. When your Townie reaches a sign-in page, it sends you an approval link. Open it on the computer where the 1Password desktop app is running.
  3. Approve the request in 1Password. You have 12 minutes. If the request times out or you deny it, your Townie will need to ask again.
  4. 1Password fills in and submits the login, and your Townie picks up from there.

How to disconnect

Go to /integrations, find 1Password, and disconnect it. Revoking Town’s access from inside 1Password isn’t supported yet.

What to try

  • Book appointments. “Find the first open dentist appointment next week in the patient portal and book it.”
  • Cancel subscriptions. “Cancel the streaming and app subscriptions I haven’t used in three months.”
  • Pull paperwork. “Download the last 12 months of statements from my insurance and utility portals and save them to Drive.”
  • Update your details. “Change the delivery address on my shopping and subscription accounts.”
  • Handle registrations. “Fill out the soccer league registration for fall.”
  • Manage memberships. “Renew my library books and freeze my gym membership for August.”

Privacy and control

  • You choose the logins. Your Townie can only use the logins you approve in 1Password.
  • Town never sees your credentials. 1Password fills in and submits the sign-in form, and your Townie can’t see the contents of your 1Password credentials.
  • You can disconnect anytime. Disconnect 1Password from the Integrations page whenever you like.
  • Actions still need your OK. Your usual approval settings still apply to anything your Townie does once it’s signed in.
