How a Towniegets to know you
The people who know us best rarely have to be told anything twice. A friend remembers how you take your coffee, which subjects to steer around, the story you’ve told a hundred times and still love telling. Knowing someone is never a single fact.
That’s the kind of knowing we’ve been working towards for you and your Townie.
The promise of Town is simple. You work alongside a Townie that learns how you work, and then gets to work. To do that, your Townie spends real time (or, compute) understanding who you are. Your habits. Your patterns. The small, particular (or, peculiar) ways you get things done. And it keeps refining that understanding as the two of you go.
Until now, that understanding lived in the background. A profile your Townie updated each week, and a set of memories it gathered along the way. Useful, but out of view.
Today we’re bringing it forward.
Meet the Town Wiki
The Town Wiki is a single place to see everything your Townie has come to understand about you.
It’s a living synthesis of your profile, your work habits, and your preferences. It gathers the memories your Townie has formed and weaves them into something whole, and it refreshes nightly. The Wiki even keeps a high-level picture of the goals and projects moving through your work and your life, so it understands not just how you work, but what you’re working toward.
The Wiki is yours to explore, at town.com/wiki, available to everyone today.
It’s also yours to shape. Select a line to change it. Leave a comment. Rewrite a whole section. It works the way you’d expect a wiki to work. But the idea isn’t to make you the editor. The idea is that your Townie keeps it, tends it, and improves it over time, the way understanding between two people deepens the longer they work together.
Under the hood
Underneath the Wiki is something bigger: a complete rework of how your Townie forms and synthesizes memory.
Your Townie’s knowledge isn’t a flat list of facts. The Wiki is organized into synthesized pages: an Overview, a Profile, and a living picture of your Goals and Projects. Each one is a distillation of disparate inputs.
Each night, a synthesis pass iterates it. Instead of simply appending the day’s notes, your Townie re-reads everything it has accumulated, promotes the durable facts up into your Profile, retires what’s gone stale, merges duplicates, and cross-checks the whole thing against your recent activity to catch what’s changed.
Appropriate parts of the synthesized wiki are fed into every session your Townie runs. When it triages your inbox, replies to a Slack or WhatsApp message, or runs a scheduled routine at 6am, it’s working from the same, ongoing understanding of you.
What you get
- One place to see everything your Townie knows about you — the Town Wiki, live at town.com/wiki
- A living picture of your goals and projects — your Townie tracks not just how you work, but what you’re working toward
- More personalized help everywhere, not just in the app — your inbox, Slack and WhatsApp replies, and scheduled routines all draw on the same understanding of you
- Sharper suggestions — grounded in observed goals and projects and tuned to the moment you’re in
- Writing that sounds even more like you — with a better read on context and the right tone for each channel
The more you work with your Townie, the more you weave Town into the way you already do things, the more it comes to know you. And the more it knows you, the more it can do. Understanding compounds and helpfulness compounds with it.
A companion who knows you a little is useful. A companion who knows you well is something else entirely.
That’s what the Town Wiki is for.
